Acquiring a piece of property isn’t easy and some newbie preppers may be discouraged from trying to buy their own land at first. However, there are a number of advantages that owning property brings, especially once SHTF.
If you’re a newbie prepper, here are three reasons to plan ahead so you can one day own property that will be the site of your own homestead. (h/t to TheOrganicPrepper.com)
Whether your future plans involve having a bug-out location (BOL) or a homestead that you can move into once you’ve saved up enough money, owning land means you have a safe placeto live before disaster strikes.
Even if you don’t want to move to your property at first, you can temporarily set it up as a BOL. Stock up on the necessary supplies and rotate all items regularly. You can also store clothing for warm and cold weather so you have supplies if you suddenly need to evacuate.
If the property has quality land, you can eventually set up a home garden on your homestead. In time, you can even expand your garden into a farm once you’ve gotten the hang of managing your crops.
While you’re saving up for your homestead, consider learning skills that can be used as a source of income. You can start a vegetable garden as a source of food for your family, with the excess crops preserved or sold fresh to buyers in the area.
Alternatively, you can learn how to care for animals. Depending on the size of your property, you can start raising chickens for meat and eggs, or larger animals like goats or cows for milk.
If you have children, they can one day inherit your property. While your children are young, you can teach them the value of hard work so they can grow up as capable preppers.
Prepping is more than just learning survival skills; it also means investing resources like time and money into a way of life that will allow your family to live in peace and away from the troubles of the city.
When choosing a location for your future homestead or BOL, look for something near a source of clean water. If this isn’t possible, factor in how you’re going to provide water for your homestead once you move in, such as whether or not you can dig a well. You should also talk to your partner before you decide on something as life-changing as buying land for a BOL or homestead.
Do they have the same mindset as you? Will they be fine with leaving the city you currently live in to settle down in a quieter location so you can start a simple and honest life?
Once you have both come to an understanding, you can begin planning how to save up money so you can buy your own property.
It’s easy to talk about planning how to set up your homestead, but you must first save up so you can afford one before SHTF.
Below are some tips to help you get started:
Prepping isn’t all about doom and gloom. It’s also about thinking ahead and making small sacrifices now so you can secure a safe and self-sufficient future for yourself and your loved ones.
